Beth Overton, CPM and Liz Derry, LVN & midwife in training

Family Centered Complete Maternity Care

Hello, my name is Beth Overton and I am a Licensed, Certified Professional Midwife providing quality care for pregnancy and birth. I am currently training two apprentices. That's a picture of me with Liz Derry, LVN who is training to become a midwife. My apprentices work with me to provide you with quality prenatal care and assist you in the birth of your baby. We provide care for women who live in Corpus Christi, Texas or in any of a number of the surrounding communities (within about 150 miles of Corpus Christi, including Alice, Beeville, George West, Goliad, Ingleside, Kingsville, Portland, Robstown, Rockport, Three Rivers, etc.

We are also able to offer complete maternity care for women in many parts of the Rio Grande Valley. We travel as often as once a week to McAllen, Edinburg, Harlingen and Weslaco to provide prenatal care in the homes of our Rio Grande Valley clients. Clients are offered the option of having their prenatal care done in our Corpus Christi office or for a small additional trip fee, we provide all home visits.

Every baby deserves a gentle birth!

Gentle Beginnings offers complete quality care for pregnancy and birth. At Gentle Beginnings, we specialize in natural childbirth. We provide you with many birthing options, including home birth, water birth, VBAC and much more. We accept--indeed, we encourage---family involvement and personal birth plans. Follow the links on our menu to learn more about the midwives and midwifery care at Gentle Beginnings.

Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Storage Policy for Dried Bloodspots
Written by Beth Overton, CPM
Once testing for your child is completed, the bloodspot card still has beneficial public health uses—from quality assurance and quality control of the newborn screening tests for these disorders to research that seeks more effective ways to test, treat and hopefully cure serious childhood diseases. For any uses outside of the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), identifying information is removed so that researchers, for example, would never be able to connect anything they find from the bloodspot with the identity of the child from which it came. Identifying information linking a child to a particular bloodspot is not allowed outside of DSHS without advance consent of the child’s parent, managing conservator or legal guardian unless otherwise provided by law.
